After age 30, the collagen levels in our skin drop by 1-2% each year and by 50 you’ve already lost nearly a quarter of your body’s collagen and that’s why your skin sags and shows wrinkles. Without collagen, our skin has no structure and things start to fall apart.

There are several types of collagen, but today we’re going to focus on “Type I” which makes up about 90% of the collagen in our body and is found in our skin.

1. What is collagen

Simply put, collagen is the substance that holds our body together and is the most abundant protein in the entire body. The visible signs of collagen are smooth, supple and elastic skin which holds its integrity and bounces back quickly.
